McLaren has signed 11-year-old Harry Williams to their Driver Development Programme, marking him as their youngest recruit ever. Williams, a promising British karting talent, joins a lineup of budding racers as he aims for a future in single-seater racing.
McLaren has added a new name to its Driver Development Programme, and it's a particularly youthful one. Harry Williams, an 11-year-old karting prodigy from Nether Alderley in Cheshire, now holds the distinction of being the youngest ever to join the ranks.
Williams started his karting journey in the Super One Series in 2021, swiftly moving into the Cadet category by 2022. That year, he also signed with Fusion Motorsport, venturing into both national and international circuits in 2023.
By 2024, he'd already secured a top 10 spot in the British IAME Inter Waterswift Championship while also competing internationally. The following year, he clinched the title of British Open Champion, notched the O plate in the Italian Waterswift Series, and took fifth in the European Waterswift Championship.
Transitioning to junior classes, Williams achieved third place in the WSK Final Cup's OKN-J category. In 2026, he has been busy with the WSK Super Master Series and is set to compete in the WSK Euro Series, Champions of the Future Series, and the FIA Karting Championships, all in the OK-Junior category.
Alessandro Alunni Bravi, who heads McLaren’s Driver Development Programme, expressed his enthusiasm for Williams' addition, saying, "We are very pleased to have signed Harry to the McLaren Driver Development Programme. Harry is a fantastic karter who has impressed on the national and international stage so far, so we are excited to see how he develops as a McLaren driver going forward."
Williams himself is thrilled about the opportunity, stating, "I am really excited to join the McLaren Driver Development Programme. They’re known for developing talent, so it’s great to join the team as I continue to progress in karting and into single-seater racing in the future. I look forward to learning from the team, and thank them for this exciting opportunity."
The young talent joins a growing list of developing drivers at McLaren, including Christian Costoya, Matteo De Palo, Leonardo Fornaroli, Ella Hakkinen, Ella Lloyd, Pato O’Ward, Gregoire Saucy, Ella Stevens, Dries Van Langendonck, and Richard Verschoor. With Williams in their ranks, McLaren continues to build a comprehensive talent pipeline for future racing success.
