Hamilton Reflects on Giving His All Despite Ferrari's Monaco Qualifying Struggles

Lewis Hamilton expressed satisfaction after delivering his best in Monaco qualifying, despite a challenging shift in Ferrari's performance. He finished third behind Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton found himself scratching his head after a puzzling change in his Ferrari's performance between practice and qualifying at the Monaco Grand Prix. Despite a promising start to the weekend with strong finishes in practice sessions, Hamilton had to settle for third in qualifying, trailing behind Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

After setting the fastest lap in FP2, Hamilton's hopes for pole were high, but the car's handling took a mysterious turn come qualifying. His final lap of 1m 12.279s fell over two-tenths short of Antonelli’s pole time. "Congrats to Kimi – mega job," Hamilton acknowledged. "Having your first pole here is so special, and obviously we’ve got such a great crowd here so it’s a beautiful day."

Reflecting on Ferrari's surprise struggle, Hamilton said, "Tough for us, I think we were looking so strong in Practice and we barely changed anything but the car was drastically different once we got to Qualifying for some reason, so we have to take a deep dive into that. I gave it absolutely everything and was as close to the barriers as I could be. What a privilege it is to be here and be one of the 22 drivers in Formula 1 getting to do this still. I love every second of it."

Qualifying at Monaco is notoriously tight, and this year was no exception. Hamilton’s teammate, Charles Leclerc, placed fourth after a minor scrape with the barriers. Despite the setback, Hamilton seemed unfazed, relishing the competitive spirit on the circuit. "I think it is definitely very close between us all. I mean jeez, I thought we almost maybe nearly had it and then Max put in a good time, and then Kimi… I think it’s great to see how close all the cars are," he remarked.

Hamilton is optimistic about Ferrari's prospects, both for the Monaco race and the season as a whole. "I think we lost something going into today and that’s what we need to try to figure out, but a big thank you to the guys back at the factory and the guys here. We haven’t added performance this weekend but we’re obviously there in the fight. I’m really keen and looking forward to seeing what developments we bring in the future."

As the Monaco Grand Prix looms, Hamilton remains a formidable presence, eager to challenge his rivals as the season progresses.
