Russell Takes Barcelona-Catalunya Pole as Mercedes Dominates Qualifying

George Russell clinched pole for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, narrowly beating teammate Lewis Hamilton and championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Charles Leclerc's crash in Q3 left him starting from tenth.

George Russell returned to form by securing pole position for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, edging out his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Kimi Antonelli in a thrilling Qualifying session. Russell's pole-clinching lap of 1m 14.679s marked his third of the year, and a crucial bounce back after a tough Monaco weekend.

Hamilton, in his usual fashion, left it late to snatch a front-row start, relegating Antonelli to the third spot on the grid. This marks the first time this season Antonelli finds himself off the front row, a testament to the competitive nature of the session.

Lando Norris secured fourth for McLaren, with the Red Bull pair of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar taking fifth and sixth, respectively. Oscar Piastri ensured both McLarens were well-placed, claiming seventh. Noteworthy performances from Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson and Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg saw them end up eighth and ninth.

Charles Leclerc, who was competitive throughout the session, suffered a crash during Q3 at Turn 4, resulting in a starting position of tenth. His premature exit was a significant blow to Ferrari's hopes for the weekend.
