Ollie Bearman finds motivation in Kimi Antonelli's recent on-track duel with George Russell. The Haas driver looks to follow his former teammate's path to the front of the F1 grid.
Ollie Bearman is drawing inspiration from watching his former F2 teammate, Kimi Antonelli, battle it out at the sharp end of the Formula 1 grid. Bearman, now with Haas, reflects on Antonelli's recent tussle with George Russell, noting how it fuels his own ambitions to climb the ranks in F1.
Bearman and Antonelli were teammates at Prema Racing in the 2024 F2 season, a partnership that set the stage for their respective promotions to Formula 1. While Bearman found his footing with Haas, bolstered by a standout performance as a Ferrari reserve in Saudi Arabia, Antonelli stepped up to Mercedes. There, the Italian driver rapidly established himself, collecting podiums and wins, and challenging his experienced teammate Russell for supremacy.
In a recent appearance on the _Drive To Wynn_ podcast, Bearman shared his excitement over the dynamic between Antonelli and Russell at the Canadian Grand Prix. "Those two are operating at an incredible level," Bearman remarked. "It was really cool to see the battle, how they pushed each other to the limit while maintaining respect. Watching Kimi fight at the front is great, especially knowing our shared history from F2."
Bearman's own journey in F1 is off to a solid start, as he sits ninth in the Drivers’ Championship with 18 points from five rounds, including a respectable fifth-place finish in China. Although he's not yet in a top-tier car, Bearman sees the success of peers like Antonelli and Red Bull's Isack Hadjar as a source of confidence. "Seeing those guys compete against well-known, highly-rated drivers gives me belief," he said. "I raced against them in F2 and F3, and now they're holding their own at the front of F1. It's proof that one day, I can be there too."
Bearman's ambitions are clear: he wants to join the ranks of the young guns making waves at the top. "It's motivating to see young drivers win," he added, "but I'm one of them, and I want to be there soon."
