Kimi Antonelli extended his championship lead with a commanding win at the Monaco Grand Prix. Despite the triumph, he stressed the importance of maintaining momentum as the season progresses.
Kimi Antonelli bolstered his lead in the World Championship standings with a decisive win at the Monaco Grand Prix, a performance he described as "incredible." Coming into the weekend with a 43-point advantage over his Mercedes teammate George Russell, Antonelli's prospects improved after clinching pole position, while Russell qualified in sixth.
The race itself was anything but straightforward. Antonelli had to keep his focus amid a flurry of retirements, penalties, and a late red flag incident caused by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc crashing. Once the race resumed, Antonelli managed to fend off Lewis Hamilton, who was in the other Ferrari car, to secure his first victory in Monaco.
Reflecting on the achievement, Antonelli remarked, "It’s been an incredible weekend, an incredible race. The car was just phenomenal, and everything felt so natural." Although his lead has now expanded to 66 points over Hamilton, Antonelli emphasized that the season is far from over. "The job’s not finished," he noted. "We’ve got to keep pushing and continue performing at this level."
Antonelli also shared how he tackled the race's restart following the red flag. Initially hesitant, he quickly gathered himself, reviewed data, and prepared for the challenge. "Once I got away, I knew I was going to make it into P1 in the first corner," he recounted, "and from that point, I just enjoyed the last few laps."
With many races still ahead, Antonelli remains focused on maintaining his championship momentum. "The team has done an incredible job," he said, expressing gratitude for the support from his team and family. "We’ve got a great car, and it’s a really good moment so far."
