Alex Albon on Collision with Piastri: 'Not Ideal' End to Canadian GP

Alex Albon's Canadian Grand Prix ended prematurely after a collision with Oscar Piastri, leaving him frustrated with missed opportunities. Piastri later received a penalty for the incident.

Alex Albon's Canadian Grand Prix ended in disappointment after a collision with Oscar Piastri's McLaren forced him to retire early. Piastri, who was penalized for the incident, locked up and collided with Albon's Williams on Lap 13. Reflecting on the race, Albon described the crash as "unfortunate" and "not ideal," especially since he had just started to feel more comfortable in the car.

Albon had made progress from his P18 starting position and was hopeful for a points finish before the incident derailed his race. "I think points were definitely possible today, but oh well," he remarked, acknowledging the potential that slipped away. Albon emphasized the need for more track time, stating, "I really haven’t done many laps this year so far – either we’re doing pit stops or we’re having DNFs or whatever."

Piastri, who finished P11 without points, admitted the day was challenging. He apologized to Albon and Williams, explaining, "I just locked up and went into the side of him." The Australian's race had already been compromised by McLaren's decision to start on intermediate tyres, which backfired as conditions proved less wet than anticipated.

Reflecting on the decision, Piastri said, "We were too safe in some ways, so one to review." Despite the setback, Albon remains optimistic about future races, hoping for smoother weekends ahead. Meanwhile, Piastri is eager to move past the incident and focus on upcoming challenges.
