Lando Norris Thinks Ferrari Could Dominate with a Better Engine

Lando Norris has voiced his opinion that Ferrari could be the team to beat in Formula 1 if they improved their engine performance. His comments follow Lewis Hamilton's victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, marking Ferrari's first win of the season.

Hamilton, who joined Ferrari in 2025, managed to outpace Mercedes’ George Russell, while championship leader Kimi Antonelli retired after overtaking his teammate. This victory was Ferrari's first since the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix and broke Mercedes' streak of Sunday wins this season.

Norris, who himself finished on the podium after Antonelli's retirement, remarked on Ferrari's progress, noting their impressive handling. "We're fortunate that Ferrari doesn't have a better engine right now," he told Sky Sports F1. "If they did, they'd be dominating. Their cornering performance is top-notch, and we're not close to that."

The reigning champion highlighted the challenge his McLaren team faces, being 83 points behind Antonelli in the standings. Norris has only reached the podium twice this season, with his previous success being a win at the Miami Sprint.

"We need to push harder and see what improvements we can make," he said, acknowledging the hard work back at McLaren's factory. "Some things take time, but we need to speed up our program to stay competitive."

Hamilton's win in Barcelona has certainly shaken things up, with him now only 41 points behind Antonelli in the drivers' standings. As the season unfolds, the battle between Ferrari and Mercedes could intensify, especially if Ferrari manages to bridge the gap in engine performance.

Norris' comments suggest that while Ferrari's car might be the best handler on the grid, it's their engine that's holding them back from truly dominating the sport.
