Hiyu Yamakoshi celebrated his first triumph in FIA Formula 3 with a win in the Monaco Sprint Race, navigating a race interrupted by a red flag. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver led from start to finish, securing a memorable victory.
Van Amersfoort Racing’s Hiyu Yamakoshi enjoyed a stellar outing in Monaco, claiming his first ever FIA Formula 3 victory in the Sprint Race. Starting from pole on the reverse grid, Yamakoshi was untroubled as he converted his advantage into a commanding lead. The race was momentarily halted on Lap 2 due to a collision at the Turn 6 hairpin, which littered the track with debris and left several cars needing recovery, necessitating a red flag.
Upon resumption, Yamakoshi maintained his lead, expertly keeping DAMS Lucas Oil's Gerrard Xie at arm's length. Xie managed to hold onto second place, marking his inaugural podium in F3. Bruno del Pino, also driving for Van Amersfoort, rounded out the podium in third, continuing his consistent form this season with back-to-back Sprint Race podiums.
Pedro Clerot, who initially lined up third, was forced to relinquish his position after cutting across Turn 1 at the start, allowing del Pino to capitalize. Meanwhile, Ugo Ugochukwu finished sixth, securing crucial points to stay atop the Drivers’ Championship standings. In contrast, Freddie Slater and Théophile Nael tangled mid-race, dropping them out of points contention.
