British Grand Prix Qualifying: Antonelli Snags Pole at Silverstone

Round 9 of the 2026 Formula 1 season took place at the iconic Silverstone circuit in Great Britain, where young Kimi Antonelli stole the show by seizing pole position for the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver had already impressed earlier with a victory in the Sprint race, adding another feather to his cap by outpacing Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and seasoned competitor Lewis Hamilton in the main qualifying session.

Q1 saw the exit of Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Franco Colapinto, Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, and Fernando Alonso. The second session wasn’t much easier, claiming the likes of Enzo Bortoleto, Pierre Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg, Oliver Bearman, Carlos Sainz, and Alex Albon.

Tomorrow's race promises to be an exciting one, with Antonelli starting up front alongside Leclerc, who is eager for his first podium since Japan. Behind them, Hamilton will be eyeing a record-extending tenth win at Silverstone, with his teammate George Russell starting fourth, aiming to close the gap in the championship standings.

British fans will have plenty to cheer about with home favorites Lando Norris and Taylor Lindblad also starting in the top 10. The weather forecast seems to promise sunshine, but as always, Silverstone could throw a curveball or two before the chequered flag falls.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff couldn't hide his satisfaction with Antonelli's performance, noting the young driver's impressive calm and precision. Antonelli's rapid rise has been a talking point, and his performance at Silverstone this weekend only cements his reputation as one to watch.
