Gasly Reclaims Monaco Podium After Alpine's Successful Appeal

Alpine's appeal overturned Pierre Gasly's penalties, restoring his podium finish in Monaco. The decision demotes Red Bull's Isack Hadjar and affects several other drivers.

In a twist of fate for Pierre Gasly, the French driver has been reinstated to the podium for the Monaco Grand Prix following Alpine's successful appeal against his time penalties. Initially, Gasly faced two five-second penalties for pit lane speeding, which dropped him from third to seventh, causing considerable disappointment.

Gasly began the race from ninth and maneuvered his way up to fourth, aided by two Safety Cars and a red flag. He ascended to third place when Mercedes' George Russell was penalized with a late drive-through. However, the speeding penalties dashed his hopes of a podium finish, prompting Alpine to seek a Right of Review.

The initial review took place during the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix weekend, where Alpine presented new evidence that swayed the decision in their favor. By Friday, the FIA confirmed that Gasly's penalties were overturned, restoring his third-place finish.

Alpine expressed gratitude towards the FIA for their transparency and cooperation throughout the review process. "We welcome the decision made by the FIA to deem our Right of Review as admissible," read their statement. With the penalties rescinded, the focus shifts back to the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix as Alpine aims for strong results.

This adjustment had broader implications for other drivers. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, who initially inherited third place, was relegated to fourth. McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad also saw their positions adjusted as a result.

Gasly, now officially back on the podium, can look forward to turning his attention to the upcoming races with renewed optimism.
