Formula 1 fans, mark your calendars: Istanbul Park is making a comeback. The Turkish Grand Prix will return to the F1 schedule in 2027, thanks to a fresh five-year agreement with Türkiye’s Ministry of Youth and Sports. This deal, which includes the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) as the delivery partner, ensures that the iconic circuit will host races through the 2031 season.

Istanbul Park, a track that first graced the F1 calendar in 2005, is renowned for its demanding layout, featuring significant elevation changes that test both drivers and their machines. Its standout feature, the multi-apex Turn 8, is a notorious test of precision and nerve, offering a thrilling spectacle for fans and a formidable challenge for drivers.

The Turkish Grand Prix last appeared in 2020 and 2021, with Lewis Hamilton clinching his seventh Drivers’ Championship at the 2020 event, equaling Michael Schumacher’s record. The most recent race winner, Valtteri Bottas, took the top podium spot in 2021 with Mercedes.

Türkiye has hosted a total of nine Grands Prix, with the circuit being a favorite among fans and drivers alike. Felipe Massa holds the record for the most victories at the track, having won three times consecutively from 2006 to 2008 for Ferrari. Other notable winners include Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel, and Jenson Button.

The sport's popularity continues to soar in Türkiye, with over 19 million fans and 7.5 million social media followers. In fact, social media engagement has seen a significant uptick, with Instagram followers increasing by 25% and YouTube views by 107% year-on-year.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s return, highlighting the broad appeal of F1 among Türkiye’s youth and the nation’s readiness to host another successful series of races. He sees the return as a testament to Türkiye’s organizational prowess and its welcoming spirit.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, also welcomed the return to Istanbul, praising the city's unique blend of culture and modernity. He acknowledged the efforts of Türkiye’s leadership in securing the event’s return, and expressed excitement about creating new memorable moments at this iconic venue.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized the strategic importance of reintroducing Türkiye to the F1 calendar, pointing to the circuit’s historical significance and the potential for growth in this dynamic market.

Preparations for the 2027 race are already underway, with TOSFED President Eren Üçlertoprağı expressing gratitude for the support from Türkiye’s government and promising an event that will do the nation proud.
