Hamilton Embraces 2026 F1 Changes While Verstappen Voices Discontent

Lewis Hamilton seems to be thriving under the new F1 2026 regulations, finding joy in the lighter, more maneuverable cars. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen's dissatisfaction with the same changes has him contemplating his future in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton appears to be in his element with the 2026 F1 regulations, relishing the more agile cars and the on-track battles they facilitate. In contrast, Max Verstappen is less than enthused, having been openly critical of the changes since they were first announced in 2023. At the Japanese Grand Prix, Hamilton was queried about why he seems to be enjoying the new era while Verstappen, his former rival, is not. Hamilton, always diplomatic, refrained from speaking for Verstappen but noted that the Dutchman has had a rather smooth ride in recent years. "It's been pretty smooth sailing for him, and this is the first year it's not," Hamilton pointed out.

Verstappen, on the other hand, has been vocal about his lack of enjoyment, which he insists is unrelated to his on-track struggles. The Dutch driver is considering stepping away from Formula 1 after the 2026 season, a statement that underscores his dissatisfaction. "I don't know if you would use the word love. I'm just saying that I'm enjoying racing," Hamilton said, adding that the sport is currently in a good place, with increased viewership and exciting races.

Hamilton acknowledges that while he enjoys the lighter, more nimble cars, he isn't particularly fond of every aspect of the new regulations. "Do I love the power of deployment? Absolutely not," he admits, but he appreciates the competitive spirit and the chance to fight for wins. This is a refreshing change from the processions of past seasons, where races often felt like little more than a parade.

While Mercedes has dominated every grand prix in the 2026 season, Ferrari has managed to secure podium finishes, with Charles Leclerc and Hamilton both making appearances. The new regulations have certainly shaken up the grid, and while not everyone is thrilled, the changes have sparked new interest and competition in the sport.

Hamilton's contentment and Verstappen's discontent highlight the varied responses to the evolving nature of Formula 1. Some, like Hamilton, see it as an opportunity to embrace new challenges, while others, like Verstappen, are left questioning whether the changes align with their vision of the sport.
