Norris and Piastri Reflect on McLaren's British GP Hurdles

Lando Norris, reigning World Champion, acknowledges that McLaren has room for improvement following the British Grand Prix. While a fourth-place finish on Sunday and a podium in Saturday's Sprint might seem satisfactory, Norris described the weekend as challenging. "Considering how not nice it’s felt out there, P4 and a P3 in the Sprint is quite remarkable," Norris admitted, highlighting the difficulties faced at Silverstone.

The race saw Norris benefit from the misfortunes of others, including a spin by Max Verstappen and car troubles for Kimi Antonelli, allowing him to climb the ranks. Despite these strokes of luck, Norris noted the team's inability to compete with the pace of Ferrari and Mercedes. "The car just wasn’t very nice in any way whatsoever today, so we have a lot to improve," he reflected, pointing out the lack of grip and downforce on McLaren's MCL40.

Despite trailing Antonelli by 82 points in the Drivers' standings, Norris remains optimistic about his title defense with 13 races still to go. "I’m still confident that the team can turn things around. It’s just a race against time at the minute," he said, urging for immediate improvements.

Oscar Piastri, Norris's teammate, also had a tough outing, ending up outside the points. An incident with Racing Bulls at Turn 6 damaged his front wing, necessitating an early pit stop. Piastri recounted, "I got sandwiched by the Racing Bulls on the way to Turn 6, three-wide down the straight, and three into one didn’t work," summarizing his race as he finished in P11.

Both drivers recognize the need for upgrades and improvements, but they remain hopeful for the upcoming races. McLaren is known for building competitive cars, and with upgrades in the pipeline, Norris and Piastri are optimistic about the team's ability to bounce back.
