Franco Colapinto Drops to P10 After Penalty in Barcelona

Franco Colapinto's P8 finish at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was downgraded due to a post-race penalty. The Alpine driver was penalized for not slowing down sufficiently for a yellow flag.

Franco Colapinto's promising finish in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix took a hit after the Alpine driver was handed a 10-second penalty. Originally crossing the line in P8, Colapinto's failure to sufficiently slow for a yellow flag saw him drop to P10.

The penalty came after a thorough review by the stewards, who noted that while Colapinto did reduce speed slightly, it wasn't enough to satisfy the regulations. Consequently, the stewards decided on a time penalty and a single penalty point on his racing license.

This decision shuffled the final standings, allowing Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson to move up to P8 and Arvid Lindblad to P9. It's a bit of a blow for Alpine, who were looking strong with both Colapinto and Pierre Gasly initially finishing closely behind each other in P7 and P8.

Despite the setback, Colapinto still manages to leave the seventh round of the season with a point, marking his fourth top-10 finish this year. The Argentine's performance has generally been consistent, though this penalty serves as a reminder of the fine margins in Formula 1 racing.

It's a lesson learned for Colapinto, who will no doubt be more cautious under yellow flags in future races. Alpine, meanwhile, will aim to bounce back and continue their quest to lead the midfield pack.
