"I've got full confidence in my abilities," Russell stated, "but I'm still working on getting the car exactly where I want it."
Russell's season has been a bit of a rollercoaster. After retiring in Canada and failing to score in Monaco, the win in Austria was a much-needed boost. This victory marked his first since the season opener in Australia, helping him reclaim second in the championship, although he's still trailing teammate Kimi Antonelli by 40 points.
The Brit is optimistic that his recent win signals a turning point. "In Austria, usually a tough track for me, I managed to perform better than expected," Russell reflected. "The conditions weren't ideal, but the progress we've made as a team is clear."
Russell's recent struggles have been partly due to reliability issues and a driving style that didn't quite suit the car. However, a podium finish in Barcelona and the triumph in Austria have offered him a fresh perspective. "These past weeks have taught me a lot about my needs from the car," he explained. Looking ahead to Silverstone, a track where he has yet to win, Russell is determined to maintain focus without succumbing to the pressure of performing at his home race. "I want to win, of course," he said, "but I won't let the home crowd add any extra stress. Once the helmet's on, it's business as usual."
Silverstone holds a special place in Russell's heart, being the venue of his first F1 experience as a child. Now, as he returns as a competitor, he's keen to channel the energy of the crowd into a strong performance. "It's always special to race here," he added, recalling his childhood memories.
