Fernando Alonso suggests Aston Martin's performance improvements might be seen after the summer break. He also shares cautious optimism for the upcoming Monaco GP.
Fernando Alonso has provided insight into when Aston Martin might see a significant boost in performance, especially after their encouraging pace at the Canadian Grand Prix. While the season began with some challenges, the team's reliability showed signs of improvement at the Miami race, where both Alonso and his teammate Lance Stroll finished the race.
In Montreal, Alonso made an impressive climb from P19 on the grid to running within the top 10 before a seat issue forced him to retire on Lap 23. Despite the setback, he noted the team's improved speed compared to Miami, despite running the same package. Alonso expects further gains with updates planned around the summer break, although he emphasized the importance of optimizing their current setup until then.
Looking ahead to Monaco, Alonso expressed a bit of optimism. "Monaco is next – a very different circuit, very slow," he noted. "The engine will be a little bit less important there, so maybe extra hope for Monaco."
Meanwhile, Lance Stroll, who ended his home race in P15, acknowledged the work still needed for Aston Martin to reach its performance goals. "It's been a difficult weekend in Montreal," he admitted. "We couldn't get the temperatures we needed into the tyres and we were struggling for grip throughout the race. We didn't have the pace we needed on the straights either. The car performance isn't where we need it to be and there's still a lot of work to do to get us there."
As Aston Martin looks to the future, both drivers seem cautiously hopeful for improvements, with eyes set on the upcoming European leg of the season.
