Alex Albon Owns Up to First-Lap Crash at Silverstone

Williams' home race at Silverstone was a weekend to forget, as their anticipated upgrades failed to deliver, leaving them without points. Alex Albon's Sunday was cut short, turning into a test session after a first-lap tangle with Ollie Bearman's Haas sent him to the pits for a new front wing.

Albon, who received a time penalty for causing the collision, acknowledged his error. "My mistake," he said plainly. "I had a bad start, locked up, and that was it. It effectively ruined the race, but we used the time to test the new front wing and some other upgrades we wouldn’t usually have time for."

Silverstone didn’t offer Williams the chance to capitalize on their upgrades, as Albon's incident translated to another DNF on his record this season. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz's race ended in 17th, hindered by a late penalty that dropped him further down the order. Despite a promising start, Sainz lamented that the car couldn’t maintain its initial positions.

"We’ve had good starts this year," Sainz commented, "but we lack the pace to hold those places. Ultimately, we end up where we qualified, around 14th or 15th. Disappointing, particularly because we expected more from the new package."

While Sainz has been pleased with his personal performance, the team's struggle to break into the points is apparent. "I know I’m performing well," he said, "but it's frustrating as we're far from where we want to be, especially compared to Racing Bulls, who we should have been targeting this year."

With three DNFs and one DNS to Albon's name this season, Williams will hope their forthcoming upgrades can offer some respite. As it stands, they remain adrift of the midfield pack they topped last year.
