Monaco Grand Prix 2026: Antonelli Triumphs Amidst a Turbulent Race

Andrea Kimi Antonelli clinched his fifth consecutive win at the Monaco Grand Prix, extending his championship lead. The race saw a string of retirements and penalties, with Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar rounding out the podium.

The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix was anything but ordinary, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli securing a commanding victory. This marks his fifth consecutive win, giving him a 66-point lead in the championship standings. While Antonelli's race was relatively smooth, the same couldn't be said for others. His teammate at Mercedes had a rough day, picking up a couple of penalties and failing to score any points.

Ferrari had mixed results; Lewis Hamilton managed a second-place finish despite a penalty, but Charles Leclerc suffered braking issues and retired late in the race. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar celebrated his first podium with the team, but Max Verstappen’s day ended prematurely due to technical issues right from the start.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri stayed out of trouble to finish fourth, though his teammate Lando Norris faced reliability issues that ended his race. Racing Bulls did well to get both cars into the points, while Alpine's Pierre Gasly had a promising day, only to fall down the order due to penalties.

Drama was the order of the day, with several incidents peppering the track. Nico Hulkenberg's collision with Carlos Sainz led to a 10-second penalty, dropping him out of the points. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez managed to finish in 10th despite a drive-through penalty, though he's still under investigation for two separate incidents.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff was seen balancing his emotions after the race, celebrating Antonelli's success while consoling George Russell, who missed out on points due to penalties. Wolff will be hoping for better luck at the upcoming race in Barcelona.

In the midfield, Racing Bulls emerged as winners, with Lawson finishing fifth and Lindblad sixth, benefiting from a timely red flag. Williams' Alex Albon grabbed points as well, but the team couldn't capitalize further due to Sainz's collision.

The aftermath of the race sees Hadjar and Perez still under investigation. Hadjar's potential red flag infringement remains unresolved, while Perez's pre-race and restart missteps are pending review.

The celebrations on the podium were lively, with Antonelli draped in an Italian flag and Lewis Hamilton congratulating him on his streak of wins. As champagne flowed, Mercedes enjoyed a significant victory.

With the next race in Barcelona just around the corner, all eyes will be on whether Antonelli can achieve what Lewis Hamilton never did—six consecutive wins.
