Permane Confirms Tsolov as Potential Racing Bulls Contender

Alan Permane, the Team Principal of Racing Bulls, has shed light on the potential future of Nikola Tsolov in Formula 1. Tsolov, currently making waves in Formula 2, is being considered as a candidate for a seat at Racing Bulls, though the team has yet to confirm their lineup for the 2027 season.

Permane had previously quashed rumors about a guaranteed spot for the 19-year-old, but he did not hold back in praising Tsolov's current form. The Bulgarian driver leads the F2 standings by 17 points, boasting four Feature Race wins and a place in the prestigious Red Bull Junior Team.

During a press conference at the Belgian Grand Prix, Permane remarked, "He’s doing incredibly well. He even topped the timesheets in Free Practice this morning. With his recent success at Silverstone, saying he's on our radar would be an understatement. He's next in line, which is fair to say."

However, Permane was clear that no immediate decisions are being made. "When that will be, I don't know, honestly," he stated. "We’re not thinking about it at the moment. He's doing his job, we're doing ours, and we'll make a call if and when he comes up to Racing Bulls later this year."

Meanwhile, the current Racing Bulls drivers, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, continue to perform well, maintaining a streak of double points finishes. This consistency has placed the team sixth in the Teams' Championship, just a point shy of Alpine, with ambitions to be the 'best of the rest.'

Permane acknowledged the dynamic between Lawson and Lindblad, noting, "It’s good to have two quick guys. I’m sure there’ll be some management needed. They’re incredibly close – I think if you look at this morning, their ideal laps are separated by milliseconds, so it’s going to be nip and tuck all year."

For now, all eyes are on how Racing Bulls will manage their driver lineup for the upcoming season, with Tsolov's impressive form adding an interesting twist to the decision-making process.
