Lawson Faces Uphill Battle in Canada After Racing Bulls Car Issues

Liam Lawson's Friday at the Canadian Grand Prix was marred by mechanical troubles, leaving him on the back foot for the weekend. Despite the setback, he's optimistic about the car's pace and hopes to catch up during the Sprint.

Liam Lawson's Friday in Canada didn't go as planned. The Racing Bulls driver encountered a hydraulic issue early in practice, which brought his car to an abrupt stop. In the brief session before Sprint Qualifying, Lawson managed only five laps before heading back to the garage.

The team couldn't fix the leak in time for the Sprint Qualifying, leaving Lawson sidelined for the afternoon. "It's frustrating," he admitted. "Tomorrow's more important, but it doesn't help that we missed today." Despite the setback, Lawson remains upbeat about the car's potential, noting that the pace was promising alongside his teammate Arvid Lindblad.

Lindblad's ninth-place Sprint qualification offers Lawson a benchmark. However, the unique challenges of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve mean Lawson has limited time to find his rhythm. "In a Sprint weekend, track time is already tight," he explained. "FP1 is crucial because it's our only proper practice before we shift into competition mode."

While Lawson is familiar with the Montreal circuit, he acknowledges the difficulty of adapting quickly with just the Sprint before Qualifying. "I'll be playing catch-up tomorrow," he said. "The Sprint and Qualifying require different approaches, so I'll be preparing as best I can."

Lawson's focus now shifts to maximizing his performance in the 23-lap Sprint, aiming to gather data and confidence ahead of the main event. With the clock ticking, he'll need to rely on his experience and the car's inherent speed to make up for lost time.
