Penalties Galore at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix: Who Got What?

The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix was a busy one for the stewards, with several drivers penalized. From pit lane speeding to being out of position at starts, here's a rundown of who faced the stewards' wrath.

The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix kept the stewards busy, handing out penalties left and right throughout the 78-lap race. While Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli celebrated his fifth win of the season, others weren't so lucky. Here's a rundown of who got penalized and why.

Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez had a rather tumultuous day in Monaco. He started off with a drive-through penalty for lining up in the wrong grid position, filling in P16 instead of his assigned P18. Things didn't improve much from there. After initially securing P10 and what would have been Cadillac's first point in F1, Perez was slapped with a 10-second time penalty post-race for another grid mishap. This error dropped him to P15. To add salt to the wound, he also received a reprimand for practicing a start in the wrong spot during reconnaissance laps.

George Russell

George Russell's day took a downturn after a less-than-ideal qualifying left him starting in P6. His troubles compounded with a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Unfortunately, he failed to serve this penalty properly during his next stop, earning himself a drive-through penalty, ultimately finishing in P12.

Nico Hulkenberg

Nico Hulkenberg seemed poised for a decent result after the race resumed post-red flag. However, he collided with Carlos Sainz at the hairpin, earning a 10-second penalty that relegated him to P13.

Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly had his podium hopes dashed after finishing P3 initially, only to drop to P7 due to two five-second penalties for pit lane speeding. Alpine, not taking this lightly, has requested a Right of Review from the FIA.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton also faced the stewards for pit lane speeding, receiving a five-second penalty. Despite this, he managed to secure a P2 finish. An investigation into a potential Safety Car infringement was dismissed, leaving his position intact.

Franco Colapinto

Franco Colapinto, like his teammate Gasly, was hit with a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. He also faced scrutiny for a collision with Carlos Sainz but escaped any further action. Colapinto finished in P14, breaking a streak of recent points finishes.

Oscar Piastri

For McLaren, Oscar Piastri continued the penalty trend with a five-second punishment for pit lane speeding. Despite this, he managed to bring home a P4 finish, a small silver lining in a challenging weekend where teammate Lando Norris retired.

Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll’s day ended on a sour note when he crashed into the barriers on Lap 60, causing the first Safety Car of the race. Earlier, he received a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, capping off a difficult outing for Aston Martin.

Overall, the stewards were certainly kept on their toes in Monaco, with penalties playing a significant role in shaping the final standings.
