Bortoleto's Silverstone Points Highlight Audi's F1 Promise

Gabriel Bortoleto finally broke Audi's points drought with an eighth-place finish at Silverstone, ending a frustrating series of near-misses that have plagued the team since Monaco. Starting from P11, Bortoleto managed to climb to eighth, marking Audi’s first points since the Australian Grand Prix. "The team deserve it," he noted, reflecting on a season where potential often failed to convert into points.

Bortoleto has been no stranger to the eleventh spot this season, a position that’s become all too familiar as Audi has flirted with the top ten without quite sealing the deal. At Silverstone, however, the Brazilian avoided trouble and slotted in between the Racing Bulls and Alpine cars for his best finish so far. "We’ve been through races with no points, and it’s been tough to see our pace and potential just slip away," he said. "But today was different; we showed our true pace."

The race strategy was straightforward, with all cars starting on medium tyres, but Bortoleto’s execution was key. He kept his nose clean at the start and made strategic pit stops, switching to hard tyres before a late safety car prompted a change to softs, crucially keeping Franco Colapinto at bay.

Audi now sits five points behind Williams and 15 adrift of Haas in the Constructors' standings. Though they’ve often demonstrated a pace advantage over these rivals, reliability gremlins continue to haunt them. Nico Hulkenberg’s weekend was a case in point, retiring yet again due to a gearbox issue. "It was a character-building weekend," Hulkenberg remarked, after his fourth DNF in nine races.

Hulkenberg's comments reflected a team still grappling with technical issues. "Something felt off even on the laps to the grid," he explained, noting a problematic launch and a mid-race spin that compounded his troubles before the gearbox gave out.

Despite these setbacks, Bortoleto's points were a much-needed boost. His qualifying was nearly scuppered by reliability issues, making his race-day success all the sweeter. "It’s big for the team," Bortoleto enthused. "I just want to hug everyone and thank them after a long weekend."
