Racing Bulls Reflect on Barcelona: Points Amidst Mixed Feelings

Racing Bulls secured a solid result in Barcelona-Catalunya with both drivers earning points, but team boss Alan Permane conveyed a sense of ambivalence. The team sits sixth in the Constructors' Championship, trailing Alpine by 16 points, and while they celebrated two consecutive double-point finishes, the weekend was not without its frustrations.

Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad finished eighth and ninth, respectively, but Permane admitted to "mixed feelings" about the outcome. While Lawson ran well early on, a Virtual Safety Car played into Alpine's hands, allowing Pierre Gasly to leapfrog him with a timely pit stop. Franco Colapinto also managed to pass both Racing Bulls drivers before a penalty dropped him back, somewhat salvaging the situation for Lawson and Lindblad.

"The race left us with mixed emotions," said Permane. "We made progress since Miami, where high-speed corners were a struggle, yet Alpine had the upper hand. It shows our ambitions exceed what we achieved here."

Lindblad, though strong in practice sessions, faced a setback in qualifying due to deployment issues on his final Q2 run, missing out on the top 10. Lawson, however, carried the flag into Q3. Lindblad started 11th and described his race as a "decent day," recognizing the challenges of moving up the grid.

"We need to analyze what went wrong, as we lost time during the race," Lindblad reflected. "The car's performance was solid, especially in later stints, but starting further back meant playing catch-up."

Lawson, who has consistently scored points this season, echoed the sentiment of disappointment despite finishing eighth. The New Zealander noted that the team expected to be more competitive but struggled to match the pace of competitors.

"The race was tough," Lawson acknowledged. "The timing of the VSC worked against us, letting Gasly pit and emerge ahead. While not the result we hoped for, the pace throughout the weekend and season has been promising."

With Austria up next, Racing Bulls aim to capitalize on their momentum at a venue closely linked to their heritage. The team remains focused on refining their strategy and performance to close the gap to rivals like Alpine.
