Audi has announced ambitious plans for a new Formula 1 campus in Hinwil, Switzerland, aiming to enhance their operations and attract top talent. This expansion is part of Audi's strategy to strengthen their foothold in Formula 1.
Audi has revealed plans for a significant expansion of their Formula 1 operations with a new campus in Hinwil, Switzerland. This move underscores the German automaker’s commitment to becoming a formidable force in the sport. Having joined the F1 grid this season by acquiring the Sauber team and their Hinwil base, Audi is now setting its sights on further development with the new campus—conveniently located less than a kilometer from their current headquarters.
Part of the new facilities at Zurichstrasse are already operational, having come online over the summer. The comprehensive development is expected to be completed by 2030. Audi has also confirmed that the existing site on Wildbachstrasse will continue to be fully functional, eventually transitioning to focus on manufacturing and wind tunnel operations. Meanwhile, the development and manufacturing of power units will remain in Neuburg, Germany, with the technical center staying put in Bicester, UK.
Currently sitting eighth in the teams' standings, Audi is optimistic about climbing the grid as their infrastructural enhancements take shape. The team principal, Mattia Binotto, emphasized the importance of the new campus in attracting and retaining world-class talent. "The campus will play an important role in helping us attract and retain world-class talent while providing the foundations required to achieve our long-term ambitions," Binotto stated.
He highlighted that the true essence of building a successful F1 team lies in its people. "The best engineers, designers, mechanics, and specialists want to work in an environment that allows them to collaborate, innovate, and perform at their highest level. The campus will help us create exactly that environment," Binotto added.
This project is particularly special for Audi as it allows them to shape their F1 team's future from scratch. "Opportunities like this are rare in modern Formula 1. We are not simply moving into an existing facility; we are creating a home designed around our people, our culture, and our ambitions," Binotto remarked. He also extended his gratitude to the Municipality of Hinwil for their support.
As Audi continues to lay down roots in the competitive world of Formula 1, their strategic developments in Hinwil are poised to play a crucial role in their quest for success.
