Charles Leclerc is gaining insights from his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton as they navigate the new challenges of the 2026 F1 regulations. Both drivers are experiencing career-first situations, prompting Leclerc to study Hamilton's data closely.
Charles Leclerc is finding a valuable mentor in his Ferrari teammate, Lewis Hamilton. As they both tackle the complexities introduced by the 2026 F1 regulations, Leclerc is keenly observing Hamilton's approach and learning from it. This season, their second together at Ferrari, has seen the duo more closely matched, unlike Hamilton's initial rocky year with the team.
Both have secured a win this season, but Hamilton holds a slight eight-point advantage in the Drivers' Championship. Many believe the new regulations have given the seven-time champion a fresh challenge and opportunity to reset. Leclerc, when asked about the impact of these changes, noted that the driving style required by the new cars is unlike anything they've encountered before.
"These cars are making us do things that we’ve never done before in our career," Leclerc remarked. He emphasized the importance of versatility, suggesting that adapting to different cars over a career is crucial for a driver's development. Though some of the new driving techniques might not be enjoyable, Leclerc acknowledges their long-term benefits.
Leclerc is particularly focused on learning from Hamilton. "There are some weekends where he’s just incredibly quick, and I learn a huge amount," Leclerc admitted. Even on his strong weekends, he finds value in Hamilton's data, which offers insights into the car's handling from a masterful perspective. "There’s always something to take after each weekend," he added, mentioning that his notebook is fuller than ever since Hamilton joined Ferrari.
Currently, Ferrari is comfortably second in the Constructors' standings, sitting 119 points ahead of Red Bull and McLaren. This suggests that the team is benefiting not only from individual performances but also from the knowledge exchange between its top drivers.
