F1 Unveils 2027 Calendar Featuring 10 Sprint Events
Formula 1 has announced its 2027 season calendar, boasting 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries and introducing 10 Sprint events. Highlights include the return of Portugal and Türkiye, alongside new Sprint locations like Monaco and Japan.
The 2027 Formula 1 season is set to rev up with a sprawling 24-race calendar spanning 22 countries, as confirmed by Formula 1 and the FIA. The World Motor Sport Council has given the green light, introducing 10 Sprint events to the mix, ensuring fans will have plenty to chew on.
Pre-season testing kicks off in Bahrain from February 24-27, followed by the season opener at the same venue, before the circus heads to Saudi Arabia. From there, it's a whirlwind tour through Australia, Japan, China, and the US, with pit stops in Miami and Canada.
Europe is on the itinerary too, with Portugal making its return in June after Monaco. Türkiye also rejoins the calendar, nestled between Azerbaijan and Singapore in October. The season winds down with races in Austin, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, and Las Vegas, before the grand finale in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
F1's 2027 schedule is a testament to the sport’s expanding global reach, blending iconic tracks with vibrant cities across five continents. This setup not only strengthens its entertainment appeal but also aligns with long-term sustainability goals by optimizing the geographical flow of events.
The demand for Sprint events remains high, prompting an increase from six to ten for the upcoming season. The format has proven popular, boasting a 12% higher viewership compared to non-Sprint weekends. Sprint Qualifying is notably more favored than traditional Free Practice, with 82% of attendees believing it enhances their experience, and 75% of fans agreeing it enriches the season.
For the first time, Sprint races will grace Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi. The drama of Monaco's tight streets will see two qualifying sessions, adding to the excitement. Sprint events will also return to familiar haunts like Montreal, Silverstone, Monza, Sao Paulo, and Lusail, ensuring action-packed weekends.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed enthusiasm for the 2027 season, highlighting the blend of iconic circuits and dynamic cities. He welcomed the return of Portugal and Türkiye and the expansion of Sprint races, promising more intensity and wheel-to-wheel action.
