F3: Taponen Edges Slater for Pole in Budapest Qualifying

Tuukka Taponen of MP Motorsport secured his first FIA Formula 3 pole position at the Hungaroring, narrowly outpacing Freddie Slater by a mere 0.042 seconds. Taponen, a member of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, completed his final flying lap with a time of 1:33.411, ensuring a start from P1 in Sunday's Feature Race. Slater, maintaining his impressive form, will join him on the front row, marking his fourth consecutive front-row start.

Adding to MP Motorsport's success, Mattia Colnaghi, a Red Bull junior, achieved his best qualifying result with a third-place finish. Nicola Lacorte from DAMS Lucas Oil secured fourth, closely followed by Brando Badoer of Rodin Motorsport in fifth.

Current championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu will lead the Campos Racing trio, starting sixth. He is trailed by teammates Theophile Nael and Ernesto Rivera in seventh and eighth, respectively. Hitech's Jin Nakamura took ninth place, just ahead of Gerrard Xie in the second DAMS entry.

Rookies from ART Grand Prix, Maciej Gladysz and Kanato Le, rounded out the top 12. Le's position sets him up to start from pole in Saturday's reverse grid Sprint Race, with Gladysz alongside him on the front row.

With the Sprint Race scheduled to kick off at 10:05 local time, anticipation builds as fans await more thrills at the Hungaroring.
