Ferrari's Fred Vasseur challenges the notion that Red Bull is the dominant force in F1. He points to McLaren and Mercedes as equally strong contenders in the current season.
Fred Vasseur, Ferrari's team principal, has weighed in on the debate about Red Bull's current status in Formula 1. Despite Max Verstappen's back-to-back victories in Sepang and Singapore, Vasseur is not convinced that Red Bull has become the team to beat. He argues that McLaren and Mercedes have also shown formidable performances, making the competition at the front more balanced than it might appear.
Mercedes driver George Russell recently declared Red Bull as the team to beat, praising their impressive performance across diverse circuits. Laurent Mekies, Red Bull's team principal, acknowledged their recent form, noting their competitive pace and victories in two of the last three races. However, Vasseur remains skeptical about Red Bull's dominance. He emphasizes the strong showings from Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari, suggesting that the battle at the top is more of a four-way contest.
When asked if Red Bull sets the current benchmark, Vasseur hesitated before stating, "I’m not sure, honestly. They are doing very well, but it’s not the team to beat. You have to focus on McLaren and Mercedes." He highlighted the fluctuating form throughout the season, with each of the top teams having their moments of success.
According to Vasseur, the close competition, often with four teams within two-tenths of each other in qualifying, means that any team bringing an upgrade could change the standings dramatically. His focus remains on Ferrari's own progress rather than getting caught up in what the rivals are doing.
