FIA Clears Lewis Hamilton After Singapore GP Incident with Lando Norris

Lewis Hamilton faced no penalties after a post-race investigation at the Singapore GP following a track limits incident with Lando Norris. The FIA stewards determined both drivers left the track, but neither gained an advantage.

Lewis Hamilton found himself in the spotlight at the Singapore Grand Prix, but not for the reasons he might have hoped. An FIA investigation was triggered when Hamilton and McLaren's Lando Norris both left the track during an overtaking maneuver at Turn 1. However, after a quick review, the stewards decided no action was necessary.

Starting third on the grid at Marina Bay, Hamilton opted for a one-stop strategy on medium tyres, unlike his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who started on softs. As the race unfolded, this decision put him under pressure from Norris and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli.

Norris made his move into Turn 1, but it was Antonelli who capitalized, overtaking both Hamilton and Norris shortly after. The stewards concluded that Norris' attempt wasn't legitimate since both cars exited the track. They noted that neither Hamilton nor Norris gained an advantage, as Antonelli overtook them both, restoring the proper order.

"The stewards reviewed video, timing, and in-car footage," their statement read. "Car 44 left the track in Turn 1 while defending against Car 1. However, since Car 1 also left the track, the overtaking attempt wasn't legitimate. Both cars rejoined the track in the correct order, having lost positions to Car 12."

Hamilton's troubles didn't end there. Despite holding off Norris, he couldn't fend off Oscar Piastri's McLaren, which pounced with fresher soft tyres, relegating Hamilton to a sixth-place finish. Leclerc managed a podium for Ferrari with second place, trailing Verstappen's commanding Red Bull. Championship leader Antonelli rounded out the podium in third.
