Haas Leaves Jack Doohan's Future Uncertain After 2027 Seat Decision

Haas F1 has chosen Rafael Camara over Jack Doohan for a 2027 race seat, leaving Doohan's role with the team unclear. Despite the setback, Haas is open to keeping Doohan as a reserve driver.

Jack Doohan's chances of securing a race seat with Haas for 2027 have evaporated, as the team has opted for Brazilian F2 leader Rafael Camara. Ayao Komatsu, Haas' team principal, admitted that Doohan's future with the team remains "up in the air" following this decision.

Doohan, who joined Haas as a reserve driver after exiting Alpine last winter, now faces an uncertain path. The final choice between Camara and Doohan was influenced by a TPC session at Portimao, with competitors like McLaren reserve Leonardo Fornaroli and Toyota's Ryo Hirakawa also vying for attention. Komatsu explained the decision simply: "He [Camara] was the quickest. That was a very simple answer. It was impressive."

This isn't Doohan's first experience with professional limbo. After losing his Alpine seat to Franco Colapinto in 2025, he's no stranger to uncertainty. Nevertheless, Haas hasn't closed the door on him entirely. Komatsu noted, "With Jack, our door is open, definitely. We’ve been talking with him and his manager to see if we can do something together beyond this year."

Haas still has one race seat for 2027 unconfirmed, but it's widely anticipated that current driver Ollie Bearman will retain his spot, given his strong performance in his second season. For Doohan, the future at Haas, at least for now, rests on reserve duties and ongoing discussions.
