Lewis Hamilton made an impressive jump from P6 to P2 in the Singapore Sprint, capitalizing on a stellar start and George Russell's early exit. The Ferrari driver was thrilled with his performance in challenging wet conditions.
Lewis Hamilton showcased his mastery of wet conditions during the Singapore Sprint, transforming a P6 start into a P2 finish. His ascent began with a superb launch off the line, overtaking both McLarens and his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, to climb into the top three. George Russell’s unfortunate crash handed Hamilton another position, allowing him to manage the race and finish just behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Reflecting on his performance, Hamilton said, "I had a mega start which is awesome. I love driving this track in the rain and those conditions, so as soon as the heavens opened I was like, 'This is a great day'." Despite the tricky conditions, Hamilton's strategy focused on preserving his tyres while attempting to reel in Verstappen. "I was trying to get close to [Verstappen] without killing my tyres," he explained, acknowledging the difficulty of overtaking on the damp circuit.
Hamilton's strong showing in the Sprint has buoyed his confidence for the upcoming Qualifying session. "We showed that we obviously have a good car," he stated. "If we can do slightly better in Qualifying, get both cars up there, I think we'll be able to reapply pressure tomorrow to both the Mercedes and the Red Bull."
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc's P3 finish was less satisfying, marred by issues with his intermediate tyres. "I struggled a lot from mid-race onwards," Leclerc admitted, describing how an aggressive setup initially paid off but became a liability as the track dried. Despite this, Leclerc managed to fend off a late charge from Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who collided on the final lap.
Leclerc reflected on the closing stages, "I had quite a good exit but then I checked in my mirrors and saw red lights on the back of the cars of the McLarens, so I knew that something happened." As the race concluded, Leclerc acknowledged the challenge posed by Kimi Antonelli but ultimately held his position, securing a double podium for Ferrari in the Singapore Sprint.
