Hamilton's Pole Challenge in Singapore Thwarted by Setup Tweak

Lewis Hamilton's bid for pole position at the Singapore GP was hindered by an ill-fated setup change to his Ferrari. Despite the setback, he remains optimistic about his chances in the race.

Lewis Hamilton's pursuit of pole position at the Singapore GP took an unexpected turn due to a setup adjustment in his Ferrari that didn't quite hit the mark. While he qualified third on the grid, behind Max Verstappen and teammate Charles Leclerc, Hamilton had been a strong contender, especially after his performance in the Sprint Race.

The seven-time world champion had led the timesheets in the first two qualifying segments, looking poised to challenge for the top spot. However, in the final segment, he couldn't improve his time, and Leclerc managed to slip ahead, leaving Hamilton to ponder a missed opportunity.

Hamilton attributed his struggles to a last-minute change to his car's front wing, which he believes upset the balance. "It’s just balance," Hamilton explained. "The car felt great in Q1 and Q2, and I thought there was more potential. We tried to add more wing, but it just pushed it over the edge, making the car snappy. None of my Q3 laps were good."

Despite the less-than-ideal outcome, Hamilton remains positive about starting third. He noted, "I’m grateful to be third, given that those laps weren’t very good."

Looking ahead to the race, Hamilton is hopeful for a strong start, similar to his performance in the Sprint Race where he climbed from sixth to third. He mentioned the possibility of working with his teammate to apply pressure on Verstappen, acknowledging the challenge but also the opportunity. "It’ll be very hard for us to beat Max, but there’s two Ferraris there, and hopefully, we can work together to apply some pressure," he said.

As the race looms, Hamilton and Ferrari will be keen to make the most of their starting positions, even as they face the daunting task of challenging Verstappen and the ever-dominant Red Bull.
