Honda's Ambitious Horsepower Goals for Aston Martin's 2027 Engine Raise Eyebrows

Honda aims to boost their power unit's performance significantly by 2027 to regain Aston Martin's confidence. However, past promises have left Aston Martin cautious about Honda's ambitious targets.

Honda is setting its sights high for 2027, hoping to substantially enhance their power unit for Aston Martin. This comes after a season where Aston Martin found Honda's engine performance lacking, prompting Lawrence Stroll to consider alternative partnerships with other manufacturers such as Red Bull and Mercedes. With Fernando Alonso voicing his dissatisfaction, it’s no surprise that Aston Martin is demanding more from Honda.

According to reports, Honda plans to increase the power output by at least 50 horsepower compared to their current engine. This would significantly narrow the gap to their competitors, who currently enjoy an 80 horsepower advantage. Yet, given Honda’s track record, Aston Martin remains skeptical.

Past promises of performance gains have not always panned out. A recent upgrade aimed at a 50 horsepower boost for Zandvoort fell flat, reportedly delivering only 15 horsepower in reality. With such a history, Aston Martin would be wise to temper their expectations for Honda’s 2027 engine.

As Aston Martin prepares for the 2027 season, confirmed with Alonso and Lance Stroll at the helm, the pressure is on Honda to deliver. The Japanese manufacturer must prove that this time, their ambitious targets are more than just wishful thinking.
