Liam Lawson Faces Unique Challenges in Red Bull Return for Monza

Liam Lawson is gearing up for another outing with Red Bull at the Italian Grand Prix, delving into the complexities of his dual-team preparation. The New Zealander only received confirmation of his drive for Red Bull on Wednesday, adding a layer of unpredictability to his preparations for the Monza race weekend.

Having stepped in for Isack Hadjar at Zandvoort, Lawson impressed with a solid P7 finish. However, the announcement that Hadjar would miss Monza came late, meaning Lawson would again partner Max Verstappen while Yuki Tsunoda fills in for him at Racing Bulls.

Lawson reflected on the late notice, mentioning the balancing act he faced: "For the last week, it was just a waiting game to see how Isack's recovery would go. It was only on Wednesday that I got the green light," he said. Despite the tight timeline, he managed to squeeze in a simulator session and standard race prep.

When asked about coordinating with team engineers, Lawson noted the dual engagement: "I've been working with both teams' engineers to stay ready. The cars are quite different, and even the simulator work is challenging. But it's good to finally focus solely on the Red Bull car," he admitted.

Describing the contrast between the Red Bull and Racing Bulls machinery, Lawson explained, "Apart from the power unit, they’re very different. The Red Bull's high-speed grip is particularly impressive, but everything from balance to steering feedback differs greatly."

As he prepares for Monza, Lawson is eager to capitalize on the opportunity: "I'm looking to make the most of this chance. Zandvoort was intense with the Sprint format, but it went well. Monza's more traditional setup should make adapting smoother with three practice sessions," he concluded.
