Max Verstappen Stays Loyal to Red Bull for the Long Haul

Max Verstappen has revealed why he's extending his stay with Red Bull, emphasizing his comfort with the team and lack of desire to "drive in another colour." Despite having a contract through 2028, speculation about his future has been a constant buzz in the paddock. However, with a new deal taking him to 2030, Verstappen has put those rumors to rest.

Speaking during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, Verstappen praised his relationship with Team Principal Laurent Mekies, highlighting their "really good, very open and transparent" communication. This rapport, coupled with his long-term goal of ending his career with Red Bull, made the decision a natural one for the four-time World Champion. "I always said, and I said this when Dietrich [Mateschitz] was still alive, I said my goal and target is to finish my career in this team," Verstappen noted, recalling his commitment to the team's late founder.

Verstappen’s ambition to remain with Red Bull is rooted not just in sentiment but also in a firm belief in the team's future success. Although the 2026 season has been less than stellar, with Red Bull yet to secure a win, Verstappen's confidence in the team's ability to return to the top remains unshaken. "You need to feel good where you're at," Verstappen explained, noting that personal comfort often outweighs the allure of a fast car elsewhere. "I feel very good in this team. I have the belief in the people, that we can get back to the top."

The Red Bull Powertrains' debut power unit has shown promise, and while Verstappen acknowledged its strength, he maintained that the goal is constant improvement. "You always want to be better," he stated, a sentiment that seems to drive his commitment to Red Bull.

Verstappen's relationship with Red Bull goes beyond the track, referring to the team as "family." This connection has been a significant factor in his decision to stay, even as high-profile figures like Christian Horner and Adrian Newey have left in recent years. "A few names have left, but at the same time, it’s still my family," Verstappen said, dismissing the idea that drivers need to change teams to find success.
