Max Verstappen is back behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 in Portugal's GT World Challenge. This marks another chapter in his growing GT racing experience, which he's expected to expand in 2027.
Max Verstappen is once again trading his Formula 1 car for a Mercedes-AMG GT3 as he competes in the GT World Challenge at Portimao. The weekend's events include a second practice session, and fans can catch all the action live. This event marks the final round of the GT World Challenge season in 2026.
Having already participated in various NLS rounds earlier this year to secure his license for the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Verstappen has steadily built up his GT racing credentials. Looking ahead, he's likely to continue this trend in 2027, with the F1 schedule allowing him to participate in events like the Spa 24 Hours, which he is particularly interested in. However, he's decided against entering the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The official track activities begin on Friday, following a private test on Thursday. The weekend schedule is packed, with the first practice session from 8:45 to 10:15 BST, the second from 12:45 to 14:15 BST, and qualifying later in the day. The race itself will take place on Saturday from 17:00 to 20:00 BST.
For those eager to follow Verstappen's progress, live streams are available, including onboard views from his car during the sessions. It's another exciting weekend for fans of both Verstappen and GT racing.
