Red Bull Extends Laurent Mekies' Tenure as Team Principal Until 2031

Red Bull Racing has solidified its leadership by extending Laurent Mekies' contract as team principal through 2031. This follows recent contract renewals for Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar, emphasizing the team's long-term competitive strategy.

Red Bull Racing is doubling down on its leadership strategy by extending Laurent Mekies' contract as team principal until the end of the 2031 season. Mekies, who took over from Christian Horner in July 2025, has been pivotal in Red Bull's resurgence, notably guiding the team to a near-miss in the 2025 world championship with Max Verstappen just two points shy of the title.

The announcement of Mekies' contract extension came shortly after Verstappen's recent wins in Bahrain and Singapore, which marked a return to form for Red Bull after a lackluster first half of the season. The team's technical strides were highlighted by the introduction of Red Bull's in-house Powertrains division in collaboration with Ford, marking their debut in engine production for the 2026 season.

In a statement to PlanetF1.com, Red Bull shareholder Mark Mateschitz expressed confidence in Mekies' leadership during a team debrief in Milton Keynes. "Laurent has played a crucial role in guiding the Team through an important period of transition while maintaining the competitive spirit and the Red Bull principles that define us," Mateschitz said, underscoring the trust and vision shared by the team's leadership.

This contract extension is part of a broader strategy that includes recent long-term renewals for drivers Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar, as well as retaining key personnel for the 2027 season. Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments at Red Bull, praised Mekies' leadership qualities and his embodiment of Red Bull's core values like courage, teamwork, and determination.

Mekies himself expressed pride and gratitude for the continued opportunity to lead Red Bull. "What makes this Team special is the way everyone comes together in pursuit of the same goal," he remarked, highlighting the collaborative spirit and forward-thinking philosophy that define Red Bull Racing.

As Red Bull looks to the future, the team remains committed to its principles of innovation and bold decision-making. With Mekies at the helm and a strong foundation laid by technical leaders Pierre Wache and Ben Hodgkinson, Red Bull is poised to continue its pursuit of success on the Formula 1 stage.
