Stella Admits Disappointment Over Norris and Piastri's Singapore Sprint Tangle

McLaren's Andrea Stella voiced his discontent with the on-track clash between teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri during the Singapore Sprint. The incident, which resulted in lost points, is seen as a setback in the team's championship battle.

Andrea Stella, the McLaren Team Principal, has expressed his dissatisfaction following the collision between his drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, during the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint. Describing the incident as "serious," Stella's initial reaction was one of disappointment, as he stressed the importance of prioritizing the team's interests above personal ambitions.

Speaking to _Sky Sports F1_, Stella deemed the collision "not acceptable," highlighting the material damage it caused to the team. In a subsequent media meeting, he reiterated this sentiment, emphasizing the need for reflection to prevent similar occurrences in the future. "With drivers, there's always a degree of unpredictability," Stella remarked, acknowledging that such incidents can happen despite prior warnings.

While some may downplay the significance of the sprint clash, given that it involved positions outside the title race, the eight points lost were crucial. McLaren, aiming to leapfrog Ferrari and fend off Red Bull in the championship standings, cannot afford such setbacks. "It is serious," Stella noted, pointing out that the incident hampers their ambitions against Ferrari and Red Bull.

Stella, known for his optimistic outlook, rebuffed suggestions that he was simply trying to see the silver lining in a negative situation. "The glass is empty," he stated bluntly, emphasizing the severity of two team cars making contact and causing damage.

While the FIA stewards ruled that neither Norris nor Piastri were wholly to blame, Stella focused on the broader team perspective. "I'm not looking for apologies," he clarified. "This is about how we, as a team, protect and promote our interests moving forward."

Stella plans further discussions with his drivers post-race weekend to ensure they extract the necessary lessons from this incident. Confident in their professionalism, he anticipates that Norris and Piastri will reflect on what occurred and improve their collaboration in the future.

Ultimately, Stella's focus remains on learning and growth, with a view to strengthening the team's unity and performance in their ongoing championship campaigns.
