While others took the easy flight, Valtteri Bottas opted for a 420km cycling journey from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. The Cadillac driver tackled jungles, plantations, and even some 'chill' snakes along the way.
Instead of hopping on a quick flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, Valtteri Bottas, Cadillac's adventurous driver, decided to pedal his way to the next Grand Prix. Covering over 400 kilometers, Bottas embarked on a multi-day cycling journey through Malaysia, arriving safely in Singapore just in time for the race weekend.
After the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, where he unfortunately spun out, Bottas swapped his racing car for a bicycle. He set off from Kuala Lumpur to Port Dickson on Sunday evening, clocking in 56.6 kilometers in just over two hours. The following day, he took on a mammoth 161.91 kilometers, passing through Malacca City and reaching Muar after nearly six hours of riding.
Tuesday saw Bottas continuing his expedition, covering another 161 kilometers as he cycled along Malaysia's scenic coastal and gravel roads. His path took him through Batu Pahat and Senggarang, a town with a crocodile legend. Eventually, he steered away from the coast towards Kelapa Sawit, ending the day in Kulai.
The final leg on Wednesday was a 'slightly' shorter ride, culminating in a total journey of 419.67 kilometers as Bottas reached Singapore. "Everything was really well planned," Bottas assured reporters. "The distances for each day were designed so I could recover for the weekend."
Bottas is no stranger to cycling; earlier this year, he qualified for the Gravel World Championships in the Czech Republic, though he had to skip the event to focus on the Singapore Grand Prix. "Sometimes you just have to jump into things," Bottas explained. "It sounded a bit crazy, but it turned out fine." He even managed to overcome a fear of snakes, encountering a few 'chill' ones along the way.
While Bottas' journey was certainly unique, he maintained that it would not interfere with his race preparations. "I'm used to the heat now," he noted, having spent days cycling in Malaysia's humid climate. With his adventurous spirit and meticulous planning, Bottas is all set for the challenges of the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
