Verstappen Clinches Singapore GP Pole as Hadjar Faces Setbacks

Max Verstappen secured pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix, outpacing Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar struggled with technical issues, leaving him at the back of the grid.

Max Verstappen showed his mettle by securing pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix, leading the charge for Red Bull ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. However, the Red Bull camp had mixed fortunes, with Isack Hadjar facing another frustrating session marred by reliability issues. Unable to set a lap time in Q1, Hadjar will start from the back of the grid alongside George Russell, who is serving an engine penalty.

As the session unfolded, there was plenty of action off the track as well. Mercedes' mechanics were busy fixing George Russell's W17 after a Sprint crash, while McLaren had its hands full replacing Oscar Piastri’s gearbox. Red Bull wasn't left out of the pit lane hustle, swapping out Hadjar’s power unit.

The session began with drama as Esteban Ocon spun at Turn 13, narrowly avoiding the wall, while Lance Stroll took a wrong turn up an escape road. Hadjar reported engine troubles, only managing to crawl back to the pits, eventually heading out again with seven minutes left. Unfortunately, persistent issues meant he ended without a lap time.

As conditions improved, Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheet with a 1:32.680, narrowly beating Leclerc, while Lando Norris slotted into third. Among those eliminated were Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon, Lance Stroll, Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, and Hadjar.

In Q2, George Russell initially set the pace, but it was Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who led with a 1:31.766, a strong four-tenths faster than anyone else. Verstappen found himself in third, grumbling about poor gear shifts. Despite being in P1, Hamilton improved further, extending his lead over Norris. Pierre Gasly's late effort bumped Nico Hulkenberg out of the top ten.

Q3 saw Verstappen set the early benchmark with a 1:31.373, edging out Hamilton and Leclerc. Mercedes tried to mount a challenge, but neither Russell nor Antonelli could break into the top three. Hamilton couldn't improve further, settling for third as Leclerc snatched second.

As the dust settled, Verstappen secured pole, with Leclerc and Hamilton completing the top three. The top ten for the Singapore Grand Prix is as follows:

1. Max Verstappen, Red Bull, 1:31.373 2. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari, 1:31.427 3. Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari, 1:31.496 4. Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes, 1:31.562 5. Lando Norris, McLaren, 1:31.712 6. George Russell, Mercedes, 1:31.747 7. Oscar Piastri, McLaren, 1:31.860 8. Pierre Gasly, Alpine, 1:32.225 9. Liam Lawson, Racing Bulls, 1:32.369 10. Arvid Lindblad, Racing Bulls, 1:32.781
