Verstappen to Welcome New Race Engineer in Austin as Lambiase Prepares McLaren Move

Max Verstappen will have a fresh voice in his ear at the United States Grand Prix as Tom Hart steps in as his race engineer. This change comes as Gianpiero Lambiase prepares for an early move to McLaren.

Max Verstappen recently celebrated a victorious outing at the Singapore Grand Prix, marking his first win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. However, this win might have been the last podium appearance with his long-time race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase. Communication issues during the race meant they had to rely on coded messages, adding a touch of intrigue to an already significant event.

Looking ahead to the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Verstappen will have Tom Hart by his side as his new race engineer. This change comes as Lambiase prepares for a future with McLaren, a move initially slated for 2028 but now possibly happening as early as 2027. Dutch journalist Erik van Haren confirmed Hart's role in Austin and noted that Hart would continue in this capacity through the Brazilian and Las Vegas Grands Prix.

Verstappen expressed surprise and joy at having Lambiase join him on the podium in Singapore, reflecting on the possibility that it could be their final shared victory celebration. "I didn’t expect him to come up to the podium with me! I was really happy it was him. It could be the last one, so at least it had a special meaning," Verstappen shared with ViaPlay.

The transition at Red Bull is part of broader changes as Lambiase's move to McLaren appears to be accelerating. McLaren's CEO, Zak Brown, has been optimistic about Lambiase joining their ranks sooner than planned. Red Bull, meanwhile, is preparing for his departure, ensuring that the transition to Hart is as smooth as possible. Hart and Verstappen will have several races to build their rapport and find their rhythm as a team.

As the season progresses, Verstappen will be keen to maintain his championship momentum with Hart's guidance, aiming to close the gap to the likes of George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in the standings. This adjustment period will be crucial for Verstappen and Red Bull as they navigate these changes while keeping their eyes on further victories.
