Christian Horner opens up about the difficult period in 2024 following allegations against him. Despite being cleared, the saga tested his resolve and impacted his time at Red Bull.
Christian Horner, the former Red Bull team principal, has spoken candidly about the tumultuous period in 2024 when he faced allegations of inappropriate behavior from a colleague. Although he was ultimately cleared after an internal investigation, the experience left a significant mark on him. Horner, who departed Red Bull in July 2025, shares these insights as he prepares for the release of his memoir, _Drive_.
Appearing on the Up To Speed podcast, Horner expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his wife, Geri, during this challenging time. He also noted the pressure from within the paddock, as rivals sought to exploit the situation to their advantage.
Reflecting on the events, Horner described it as a "very, very tough period," one that tested his character and resilience. "The easiest thing would have been to roll over and walk away," he admitted. Instead, he chose to stand by his principles and trust the process.
The investigation was thorough, involving an independent King's Counsel, and all allegations were dismissed. However, the process was not without its difficulties, including media leaks that thrust his family into the spotlight. Horner credits his wife's public support for helping him navigate these trying times.
During the ordeal, Horner continued to lead Red Bull to victories, finding solace in the garage among his team. "I knew the people, the mechanics, the technicians, the people in the garage weren’t judging me," he said, highlighting the importance of his team's support.
Horner also touched on the opportunism of rivals who sensed weakness and applied pressure through media channels, hoping to destabilize Red Bull. While he refrained from making direct accusations, Horner suggested that the timing of the allegations was no coincidence.
In the end, Horner believes the experience made him stronger and provided valuable perspective. "I wasn’t prepared to be defined by this," he stated, emphasizing his determination to move forward.
