Kimi Antonelli's rise to become the youngest Formula 1 World Champion has been met with admiration across the paddock. Rivals and teammates alike praised the young Italian's exceptional talent and composure throughout the season.
In a remarkable feat, Kimi Antonelli has become the youngest World Champion in Formula 1 history. His third-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix secured the title, and the young Italian shared the podium with luminaries Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, marking a memorable moment in his burgeoning career.
While Antonelli might have preferred the top step, standing alongside these legends was a fitting way to start his celebrations. The respect he has garnered from fellow competitors, many of whom have far more experience, speaks volumes about his talent.
Max Verstappen, who knows a thing or two about clinching championships, was quick to commend Antonelli's prowess. "Achieving this in just his second year is hugely impressive," said Verstappen. "At his age, to be so consistent and error-free, and to outperform his seasoned teammate, is incredible. I'm proud of how he's handled the pressure this season; he's truly earned this championship."
Lewis Hamilton echoed these sentiments, expressing his joy at sharing the podium with Antonelli during such a pivotal moment. "Being up there with Kimi for his first World Championship was special," Hamilton remarked. "It's a moment I won't forget."
Lando Norris, the outgoing champion, was equally effusive in his praise for Antonelli. "Unbelievable," Norris said. "He's blown everyone away this year. The way he's connected with his car and performed is something special. At just 20, he's had an incredible season, and I'm genuinely happy to pass the title to him."
Oscar Piastri, Norris' teammate, also acknowledged Antonelli's impressive season, noting that while the championship race wasn't as tight as in 2025, the young champion's performance was nonetheless remarkable. "Mercedes have given him the tools, and he's delivered," Piastri observed. "A very impressive season indeed."
Even those still seeking their first titles, like Charles Leclerc, couldn't help but admire Antonelli's achievement. "He's younger than me, and what he's done is amazing," Leclerc said. "Seeing his family so emotional on the podium was a beautiful moment. He truly deserves it."
Carlos Sainz, another veteran of the sport, highlighted Antonelli's strategic acumen. "To maximise his chances and dominate the first half of the season before controlling the rest is what champions do," Sainz noted. "He did it brilliantly."
Alex Albon, Sainz's teammate, pointed out Antonelli's calm demeanor as a key factor in his success. "His race pace has been outstanding," Albon said. "It's been impressive to see the strides he's made from last year."
The younger drivers, such as Franco Colapinto, also celebrated Antonelli's victory as a triumph for their generation. "He deserves it, and it's the dream for all of us," Colapinto stated. "His consistency has been phenomenal."
Gabriel Bortoleto, close in age to Antonelli, sees his success as motivation. "We've known each other since we were kids," Bortoleto shared. "To see him as World Champion is inspiring, and I hope to compete with him for titles in the future."
As Antonelli looks ahead to defending his title, the F1 community watches with anticipation to see how this young champion will continue to shape the sport's future.
