Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez will not face penalties following their collision in the Singapore GP sprint race. The stewards' decision comes after both drivers retired early in the race.
The FIA has concluded its investigation into the collision involving Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and Cadillac's Sergio Perez during the Singapore Grand Prix sprint race, deciding not to impose further penalties on either driver. Both Stroll and Perez found themselves out of the race on the first lap, following an encounter at Turn 16, a sharp right-hander on the Marina Bay circuit.
Stroll, defending his position on the outside, spun into the barriers, while Perez, who held the inside line, retired after making it back to the pits. The stewards' examination revealed that Stroll took a reasonable line into the corner, exonerating him from fault. Meanwhile, Perez, who attempted an overtake, locked up his front right wheel, leading to the contact. Despite being deemed predominantly at fault, Perez's penalty was rendered moot as he had already retired from the race.
The stewards noted that under normal circumstances, Perez would have been handed a five-second penalty. However, since such penalties are not converted into grid penalties and Perez did not finish, no further action was necessary. Cadillac remains without points in their debut season, while Aston Martin, despite sitting tenth in the standings, owes its 11 points entirely to Fernando Alonso's efforts.
