George Russell Explains Battery Deployment Error Led to Singapore Sprint Crash

George Russell's promising start in the Singapore GP Sprint was cut short due to a misjudgment in battery deployment. This mistake not only ended his race but also dented his championship aspirations.

George Russell's Singapore GP Sprint ended abruptly after a promising start when he crashed his Mercedes into the pit wall. The Briton had expertly moved from second on the grid to take the lead from Max Verstappen, but his race took a turn for the worse as he miscalculated his battery deployment.

Russell explained to Sky Sports F1 that he had more battery deployment than expected, which pushed him wide onto the exit kerb. The mistake proved costly as it sent him spinning into the wall, an error he described as a "silly mistake" with "big consequences."

This incident not only dashed his immediate race hopes but also furthered the gap to his teammate Kimi Antonelli in the championship standings. Antonelli, who avoided similar troubles, finished fourth after benefiting from a last-lap incident between the McLaren drivers. Now, Russell finds himself 89 points adrift from Antonelli, who is edging closer to his first Drivers’ title. With a power unit change relegating Russell to the back for Sunday's race, his uphill battle continues.
