Haas has confirmed that Ferrari junior Rafael Camara will replace Esteban Ocon for the 2027 season. Meanwhile, Williams gears up for its 50th anniversary with the FW50 car.
Thursday’s F1 news brings a double-header of announcements. First up, Haas has confirmed that Ferrari junior Rafael Camara will take over from Esteban Ocon for the 2027 season. The 21-year-old Brazilian, currently leading the Formula 2 standings, steps in as Oliver Bearman’s new teammate. This move was widely anticipated after PlanetF1.com hinted at Ocon's departure at the end of 2026. Camara, a member of Ferrari’s junior academy, is the first rookie lined up for the F1 2027 season, signing a multi-year contract with Haas.
Meanwhile, Williams is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in F1 with the launch of its 2027 car, aptly named the FW50. The Grove-based team will join Ferrari and McLaren in the 50-year club come 2026. Williams previously commemorated its 40th anniversary with the FW40 back in 2017.
In other F1 news, Red Bull has confirmed that team principal Laurent Mekies will remain at the helm until the end of the 2031 season. Mekies, who took over from Christian Horner in July 2025, has overseen a recent upswing for Red Bull, evidenced by back-to-back wins in Bahrain and Singapore with Max Verstappen.
Over at Ferrari, former engineer Jock Clear has thrown his support behind team principal Fred Vasseur. Despite speculation about Vasseur's future, Clear insists the team is in a strong position. However, whispers of a succession plan at Ferrari suggest Vasseur might not be in the hot seat for long, despite the team's stated support for the Frenchman.
