Lewis Hamilton was unwell after the Singapore Grand Prix, missing post-race interviews due to dehydration. An unbroadcast radio message from Ferrari may explain why he struggled physically.
Lewis Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, was unable to fulfill his media obligations after the Singapore Grand Prix due to feeling unwell. The intense heat and humidity, coupled with the marathon nature of the race, take a toll on drivers, making Singapore one of the most challenging events on the F1 calendar. Although there were brief virtual safety car interruptions during the 62-lap race, the pace remained demanding throughout.
An hour and 20 minutes into the race, Hamilton’s engineer, Carlo Santi, reminded him to drink, a message that didn’t make it to the broadcast feed. Journalist Julianne Cerasoli later reported that Hamilton was dehydrated following the race. It’s been noted that Hamilton often doesn't drink water in the cockpit, a habit that might have caught up with him this time. The race was the last in a string of physically punishing events, following another tough race in Malaysia just a week prior.
Adding to the drama, Hamilton's strategic decisions during the race were less than optimal. He apologized to Ferrari over the radio after a risky move to stay out during Lance Stroll’s virtual safety car-triggered retirement backfired, costing him several places. Hamilton fell from third to sixth, overtaken by both McLarens and Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes.
This isn't the first time Hamilton has been excused from post-race duties in Singapore due to health issues. Back in 2024, both he and then Mercedes teammate George Russell showed symptoms of heat exhaustion. After being checked by FIA medical staff, Hamilton was allowed to skip media duties and left the circuit soon after. Despite the scare, it appears Hamilton is fine, with no doubts about his participation in the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
