Jak Crawford to Drive Aston Martin in Mexico City FP1

Jak Crawford will take Lance Stroll's seat for FP1 at the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix. The session marks Crawford's fourth on-track appearance with Aston Martin in 2026.

Aston Martin has announced that Jak Crawford will drive the AMR26 during the FP1 session at the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix. This outing will see Crawford slip into Lance Stroll's seat for the session, marking his fourth appearance behind the wheel this season.

Crawford, serving as Aston Martin's Third Driver, previously participated in Free Practice sessions in Japan, Austria, and Belgium, with a best finish of P20 at the Red Bull Ring. The upcoming Mexico City session is part of the team’s mandatory rookie practice outings for the year.

Having wrapped up his third Formula 2 season last year, the 21-year-old Crawford has been integral to Aston Martin's testing and simulator efforts, particularly as the team works on improving their power unit and chassis performance.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the AMR26 in Mexico City," Crawford commented. "The circuit holds special significance for me as I made my FP1 debut there last year. Returning with more experience is exciting."

Crawford joined Aston Martin's Driver Development Programme in 2024 and has been steadily building his experience both on track and in the simulator. "I've learned a lot this season and I'm eager to apply that knowledge. Announcing this during my home race weekend in Austin is also very special," he added.

Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack expressed confidence in Crawford's abilities, saying, "We are pleased to give Jak another opportunity in the AMR26. His contributions in the simulator and testing have been valuable, and this session is another chance for him to showcase his capabilities while aiding the team's weekend preparations."

Crawford's FP1 session in Mexico City is set to provide him with another opportunity to contribute valuable feedback as Aston Martin continues to develop its 2026 campaign.
