Jenson Button Applauds Lando Norris' Maturity Post-Singapore Incident

Jenson Button commends Lando Norris for his improved attitude after a collision with teammate Oscar Piastri during the Singapore sprint race. Norris' ability to take responsibility impressed Button, showing growth after a challenging weekend.

Lando Norris made a commendable recovery from a tricky situation during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. After a collision with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in the sprint race cost the team valuable points, Norris faced criticism for both the incident and his initial media interactions. However, his subsequent approach impressed former F1 world champion Jenson Button.

The collision at the Marina Bay Street Circuit was a costly one for McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship. Norris, who was held responsible for the crash, initially seemed to struggle with the aftermath, appearing somewhat defensive in his media appearances. Yet, by the time the Grand Prix rolled around, there was a notable shift in his demeanor.

Norris showed resilience by securing a fourth-place finish in the main race, collecting 12 important points for McLaren. His attempt to overtake Lewis Hamilton didn’t go as planned, resulting in a lost position to Kimi Antonelli, but Norris was quick to acknowledge his misjudgment. "I should have done a better job battling with Lewis," he admitted, reflecting on his decision-making. "It was inevitable that I would have passed him at some point. I just didn’t need to overtake him where I did."

Jenson Button, speaking to Sky Sports F1, praised Norris for taking responsibility. "To be fair to Lando, he usually does," Button remarked, noting Norris’s candid acknowledgment of his own mistakes. Button appreciated the contrast between Norris’s initial interview post-sprint and his more reflective comments after the main race.

Naomi Schiff also observed Norris's evident remorse following the sprint incident, acknowledging the impact of his actions on the team's points tally. Norris was noted for his attempts to assist Piastri during the race, suggesting a team-oriented mindset despite the earlier clash.

This weekend's events in Singapore have highlighted Norris's capacity for growth, turning a challenging situation into an opportunity to demonstrate maturity and accountability. As the F1 season progresses, McLaren will surely hope to see more of this evolved approach from their driver.
