Lance Stroll has been cautioned by FIA stewards for not adhering to pit lane exit rules during the Singapore GP. Amidst a challenging season, this adds to Aston Martin's ongoing struggles.
Lance Stroll has been issued a warning by the FIA stewards following an investigation at the Singapore Grand Prix. The inquiry focused on Stroll's pit lane departure during his reconnaissance lap, where he allegedly did not comply with the race director's instructions. The stewards concluded that Stroll failed to adhere to the protocol, resulting in a warning.
Drivers who weren't practicing starts before their grid lap were required to cross a white line at pit exit to avoid potential collisions. Before the race began, officials noted that Stroll's actions would be under post-race scrutiny. The result was a caution for the Canadian driver.
The stewards' statement indicated, "The stewards reviewed video evidence. When Car 18 left the pit lane during the reconnaissance laps without performing a practice start, the car did not cross the white line at pit exit and therefore did not comply with the requirement set out in item 6.5 of the Race Director’s Competition Notes."
Stroll's race came to an early end on Lap 39 after going into the run-off at Turn 14. Although he found reverse, he ultimately parked his AMR26, prompting a Virtual Safety Car. This marked Stroll's 11th retirement of a tough season, plagued by reliability issues with Aston Martin's partnership with Honda.
Following the race, Stroll explained the cause of his retirement, saying, "We had seen drivability issues during the race, and then the clutch was too hot, so we had to stop." He noted that drivability was a significant challenge, adding, "We just try and make things better for the next one."
In F1 2026, Stroll is among three drivers yet to score points, along with Cadillac's Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. Aston Martin's points this season have come courtesy of Fernando Alonso, with the team trailing Williams by five points and sitting ninth in the Constructors' standings. Audi is ahead by another 11 points.
The F1 2026 season continues with the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas.
